How to combat Morning Sickness
Feeling nauseous or being sick is common in the early weeks of pregnancy. Below are a few tips that can help you cope with morning sickness better:
- Eat small quantities and have food often: An empty stomach makes sickness worse. keep healthy snacks handy at all times.
- Eat protein rich foods: high protein food and food rich in vitamin B is good to reduce nausea. try and avoid spicy / acidic/ fatty or fried food.
- Avoid cooking during the morning hours: the smell of food increases the feeling of nausea. Opt for cold food in the morning and cook when nausea settles down.
- Drink plenty of fluids between meals: drink plenty of fluids in between meals to make sure you stay hydrated during your pregnancy.
- Get plenty of rest: get ample of rest at night and nap in between the day if you get the opportunity. This will help distress and relax your body which will help with reducing the sickness.
- Sniff Lemons: This is a tried and tested remedy from generations. Whenever you feel nauseous cut a lemon and sniff it! It helps!
- Amazing Ginger: Ginger, when used in small quantities, can help combat morning sickness. You can add it to your tea or try taking ginger tablets or capsules.
- Pregnancy multivitamins: These may help to reduce the feeling of nausea.
- Talk to friends and family who understand: sometimes it helps to just share your journey of pregnancy with a close friend or family member and it might take your mind off nausea.
