With the busy and stressful lives people lead here in the UAE, we have all experienced headaches at some point in time. Sometimes the headaches are mild and bearable, which is cured by over the counter medications or painkillers. On the other hand, some headaches are moderate to severe and on one side of head associated with irritation of light and sounds, which could be a migraine.

There are numerous types of headaches that are medically identified, and migraine is only one among them, which can severely impair the quality of life. A migraine is a neurological condition in which one experiences episodic headaches mostly on one side of the head (the pain and can be both sided in some patients). The condition can be caused in men, women and even in children, although women are major sufferers of the condition.  A migraine attack in an individual is generally accompanied by nausea, vomiting and light sensitivity. A typical migraine attack lasts for a minimum of 4 hours and may continue until 3 days in the severe form.

Good Carbohydrates vs Bad Carbohydrates

Carbohydrates are an important source of nutrition for us. They are one of the basic nutrients required to keep the body healthy and functioning, the others being proteins and fats. Carbohydrates are found in a variety of healthy and unhealthy food, causing it to become a topic of argumentative discussion.

The recent past has seen an increase in a lot of diets that require you to avoid or cut off carbohydrates completely from your diet. This is because of the presence of carbohydrates, better known as carbs, in foods you know are good for you like vegetables and in foods that you know aren’t healthy, like pastries. This has also led to the division of carbs into good carbs and bad carbs, however, they are generally categorized as bad for health as they cause weight gain.

The body needs sufficient amount of carbohydrates in order to function effectively and there is a certain amount of carbs that one should intake on a daily basis. However, this doesn’t mean one can load up on donuts, cakes, and cookies in order to fulfill their daily intake of carbs. An individual needs to know the difference between carbs that belong on your plate and the ones to avoid. Intake of carbohydrates is good and is necessary, although consuming the wrong carbs at the wrong time can work against your metabolism and come in the way of dropping pounds.

Never Hold Back A Sneeze: Here’s Why!

Sneezing is a reflex by which our body fights away irritants that are inhaled into the nose. Ever wondered why you sneeze more than once in a row sometimes, it is because at times it takes more than one go to clear off all the irritants.

Holding your nose and mouth when a forceful sneeze urges might seem like a simple and harmless thing to do, but did you know that this act could result in severe medical consequences? Firstly one needs to understand that sneezing is a reflex to infiltrate the nasal lining and clear its passages to be able to breathe clean air. In case of an irritation, the chest muscles contract/tighten leading to pressure build up. The tongue then pushes against the roof of the mouth forcing breath to push out through the nose, hence causing a sneeze.

It’s always the wrong time when there is an urge to sneeze in the middle of a movie theater or a meeting. A sneeze travels at about 100 miles per hour, which is probably the reason why people tend in hold in their sneeze as they do not want to spread the germs all over. Moreover in some social situations like on a public transport or in between a presentation, one doesn’t feel its right to push out a big sneeze and hence being polite, you hold it back.
